There is an easy assumption that a workout takes care of the physical side of the day. You exercise for 45 minutes, so you feel you have been active. But then consider the rest of the day:
45-minute workout → 8 hours sitting at work → commute sitting → dinner sitting → evening sitting
The workout still matters. It has not been cancelled. But it also does not erase all the sedentary time that came before and after it.
The World Health Organization recommends that adults limit sedentary time and replace sedentary behavior with physical activity of any intensity, including light-intensity activity. That creates a more useful way of thinking about activity.

The intervention did not produce clear improvements in sleep architecture, while sleep opportunity itself had a stronger influence on several sleep outcomes.
That finding is important because it prevents a common mistake. Reducing sedentary time may be sensible health behavior. But it should not be presented as a guaranteed treatment for poor sleep.

If you sit for long periods, getting up and moving is still reasonable.
You might walk during a phone call, stand for a short task, take a brief walk between work activities, or simply change position and move around more often. The objective is not to turn your workday into a workout. It is to interrupt prolonged inactivity.
